A 16-year-old boy is fighting for his life in hospital after being hit by a car in Melbourne's southeast on February 13th 2026.
Police were called to Pound Road at Narre Warren South about 4:30 p.m. after the teenage boy was struck. He was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries and remains in critical condition.
The female driver of the car was also assessed at the scene after she crashed into a tree following the collision with the teenager, according to Victoria Police.
"The exact circumstances surrounding the collision are yet to be established and an investigation is ongoing," Victoria Police said in a statement.
Narre Warren South is a suburb in Melbourne's outer southeast, about 45 kilometers from the city center. Pound Road is a busy local thoroughfare in the area.
The incident is the latest in a string of serious crashes involving young people across Melbourne in recent months. In December 2025, a 14-year-old boy died after being hit while riding an electric bike in Diamond Creek, in Melbourne's northeast.
That crash sparked renewed calls for safety crackdowns on e-bikes, with authorities concerned about the growing number of fatal accidents involving young riders on electric bikes that can reach dangerous speeds.
Victoria Police's major collision investigation unit is handling the Narre Warren South crash. Officers are urging anyone who was driving on Pound Road around 4:30 p.m. on Friday to check their dashcam footage.
The teenager's family is at his bedside as doctors work to save his life. Police have not released his name or further details about his condition out of respect for the family's privacy during this critical time.
