A fierce dispute reportedly broke out during a recent Israeli cabinet meeting over the ongoing blockade of Gaza, as senior military and political officials clashed on humanitarian aid policy, according to Israel’s public broadcaster, Kan. Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir, Israel’s chief of general staff, is said to have engaged in a heated exchange with two far-right cabinet members—National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir and Minister for Settlement Orit Strook—after they argued that there was “no need to bring in aid” for Palestinians in Gaza. “You don’t understand what you are saying. You are endangering us all,” Zamir reportedly shouted, as quoted by Kan. “There is international law—we are committed to it. We cannot starve the Strip. Your statements are dangerous.” According to the report, Zamir also reiterated his concerns directly to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Despite the general’s warning, the cabinet ultimately rejected his recommendation and opted to maintain the total blockade. Israel’s full blockade on Gaza, which began in early March, has triggered a deepening humanitarian crisis in the coastal enclave, home to an estimated 2.3 million Palestinians.
