On Friday, October 24, 2025, the African Community Football Tournament officially kicked off in Brisbane, Queensland, bringing together diverse African communities from across the state. The annual event is a vibrant platform to celebrate multiculturalism, promote inclusion, and strengthen unity among African Australians. More than just a sporting competition, the tournament is a celebration of identity, friendship, and community spirit. Supported by the Queensland Government and local councils, the event aims to foster social cohesion and highlight the positive contributions of African communities to Queensland’s multicultural society. On Saturday, October 25, the Rwandan community team made an impressive start to their campaign. In their opening match against South Africa, Rwanda put on a strong performance but lost narrowly, 1–0, after a late header from South Africa following a free kick in the final minutes. Earlier that morning, Rwanda secured a 1–0 victory over Guinea, showing great determination and teamwork.   Another match was scheduled for 7:00 PM, but due to heavy rainfall and thunderstorms that damaged parts of Brisbane’s infrastructure, the game was postponed for safety reasons. Despite the weather, the tournament continues to bring excitement, pride, and unity. Such initiatives provide opportunities for young people from African backgrounds to practice good sportsmanship, build leadership skills, and connect with other cultural communities. They also reflect the Queensland Government’s commitment to promoting diversity, inclusion, and community wellbeing. Fans and community members are encouraged to come out and support Team Rwanda in their upcoming fixtures. The team will face South Africa on October 25 at 11:00 AM, followed by two matches on October 26 against Guinea at 9:45 AM and Madagascar at 5:45 PM. Their final match will take place on November 4 against Eritrea at 9:45 AM. Let’s come together to support our Rwandan team not only as fans, but as proud members of a united, multicultural Queensland.
