Ambassador Parfait Busabizwa on Wednesday, June 5, presented his letters of credence to President Denis Sassou N’Guesso, officially accrediting him as Rwanda’s Ambassador to the Republic of the Congo (Congo-Brazzaville). Prior to this appointment, Busabizwa served as Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Youth from 2023 to 2024. He previously held various roles, including Vice Mayor in charge of Economic Development for the City of Kigali. Bilateral cooperation between Rwanda and Congo dates back to 1976. To date, high-level visits and bilateral engagements have resulted in the signing of 33 agreements and memoranda of understanding. In July 2023, President Denis Sassou N’Guesso undertook a three-day visit to Rwanda, marking a significant step forward in the countries’ bilateral relations. The visit began on Friday, May 21, with a warm welcome at Kanombe International Airport by his Rwandan counterpart, President Paul Kagame. The visit had a lasting impact on the relationship between the two nations. A key milestone was the signing of a trade and economic cooperation agreement under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) on July 22. The signing, presided over by Presidents Kagame and Sassou N’Guesso, underscored both countries’ commitment to advancing regional economic integration. During his stay, President N’Guesso participated in a series of high-level meetings. He held productive discussions with President Kagame, delivered a speech before the Rwandan Parliament, and attended an official dinner hosted by the Rwandan Head of State. In recognition of his contributions to Africa’s development, President Kagame awarded N’Guesso the National Order of Honour. Earlier, from April 11 to 13, 2022, President Paul Kagame made a three-day state visit to the Republic of the Congo. During the visit, he and President Sassou N’Guesso held a private tête-à-tête, followed by a bilateral meeting with their respective delegations. Representatives from both sides signed several Memoranda of Understanding in areas of mutual interest, including political and economic cooperation and trade. President Kagame also addressed a joint session of the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies, which together form the Congolese Congress.
