Rwandan envoy Rosemary Mbabazi, on Thursday, March 6, presented her Letters of Credence to President Alassane Ouattara, marking the beginning of her tenure as Rwanda's Ambassador to the Republic of Côte d'Ivoire. In addition to Côte d'Ivoire, Mbabazi is also accredited to Benin, Togo, Sierra Leone, and Liberia. Her official residence is in the Ghanaian capital, Accra. Rwanda and Côte d'Ivoire have cultivated a robust bilateral relationship, characterized by high-level official visits and the signing of significant cooperation agreements. In December 2018, President Paul Kagame, accompanied by First Lady Jeannette Kagame, embarked on a 48-hour official visit to Côte d'Ivoire. They were warmly received in Abidjan by President Alassane Ouattara and First Lady Dominique Ouattara. This visit underscored the commitment of both nations to strengthening their diplomatic and economic ties. Prior to President Kagame's visit, in April 2018, President Alassane Ouattara of Côte d'Ivoire visited Kigali, further solidifying the relationship between the two countries. During President Kagame's December 2018 visit, pivotal agreements were signed to enhance cooperation: Visa Exemption Agreement: This accord allows citizens holding diplomatic, service, or ordinary passports from both countries to enter, transit, and stay for up to 90 days without a visa, facilitating smoother movement between the two nations. Memorandum of Understanding on the Joint Cooperation Commission: This memorandum establishes a structured framework for implementing mutually agreed-upon programs and projects in economic, scientific, and technical domains. Protocol on Regular Political Consultations: This protocol sets the stage for consistent political dialogues, enabling both countries to exchange views on matters of mutual interest and coordinate their positions on regional and international issues. In March 2022, a delegation from Côte d'Ivoire, including police officers and officials from various entities, visited the Rwanda National Police (RNP) to exchange experiences and expertise. The discussions focused on capacity building, continuous training, human resource management, and logistics, reflecting a mutual commitment to strengthening law enforcement collaboration.
