The Australian government, one of the largest non-NATO supporters of Ukraine, confirmed on Saturday that most of the 49 tanks promised have already arrived in Ukraine, with the rest expected to follow soon. Defence Minister Richard Marles said. “The M1A1 Abrams tanks will make a significant contribution to Ukraine’s ongoing fight against Russia’s illegal and immoral invasion.” These tanks, made in the United States, are powerful and modern weapons equipped with a 120mm cannon, advanced armor, and a high-speed turbine engine.

They are designed for frontline combat and provide strong protection, mobility, and firepower. The tanks are part of a broader A$1.5 billion ($980 million) aid effort by Australia, which also includes ammunition and other defense supplies.
Alongside this, Australia has imposed sanctions on about 1,000 Russian individuals and entities and banned exports of alumina and aluminum ores, including bauxite, to Russia. The war, which began with Russia’s invasion in February 2022, has increasingly relied on drone warfare, with both sides launching large-scale aerial attacks. Ukraine’s foreign minister recently reported that Russia launched more than 330 missiles and 5,000 combat drones in June alone.
