Friends pulled him from the water with severe leg injuries and emergency responders provided critical first aid before he was rushed to Sydney Children’s Hospital in Randwick. Despite intensive medical care, Nico succumbed to his injuries six days later. His parents described him as a “happy, friendly and sporty young boy with the kindest spirit.” The attack was part of a spate of four shark incidents in New South Wales over a short period, prompting temporary beach closures and renewed warnings for swimmers.
