The two worked together on the 2024 film "It Ends With Us," a romantic drama about domestic violence where Baldoni served as both director and co-star opposite Lively.
Lively sued Baldoni in December 2024, accusing him of sexually harassing her during filming and then launching a smear campaign to destroy her reputation after she complained about his behavior on set. She claims he made unwanted sexual advances, showed her explicit photos, and improvised uncomfortable intimate scenes without her consent.
After she reported his conduct, Lively says Baldoni hired a crisis PR team to spread negative stories about her, painting her as difficult to work with. Her lawsuit seeks $500 million in damages for sexual harassment and defamation.
Baldoni fired back with a $400 million countersuit, calling her accusations lies and claiming Lively and her husband Ryan Reynolds used their Hollywood power to bully him and damage his career. A judge dismissed that countersuit last June, and Baldoni didn't refile.
The court-ordered mediation Wednesday was their first face-to-face meeting since filming ended. A judge shuttled between separate courtrooms where each actor waited, trying to broker a settlement. After six hours, Baldoni's attorney Bryan Freedman confirmed talks failed and said he's "looking forward" to the May 18 trial.
The case has already devastated both careers. Lively's positive public sentiment dropped from 81% to just 10.6%. Baldoni fell from 62.5% to 8.7%. Unsealed court documents revealed Hollywood executives calling Lively "a terrorist" and saying she'll "probably never work again."
Both stayed silent leaving the courthouse. If they go to trial, every ugly detail will become public, potentially ending both their careers permanently.
