The Chinese government plans to give financial support of up to $1,500 to each parent who has a child. This is part of efforts to encourage more people to have children, as the country's birth rate continues to decline. For over 40 years, China had a one-child policy. This limited population growth among young people and led to most of the country’s 1.4 billion people being older adults. Since the policy was removed, the government has been working to encourage families to have more children. According to the state media outlet CCTV, parents in China will now receive up to 3,600 Yuan per year for each child under the age of three. This money is expected to help about 20 million families care for their children. Many provinces in China have already started giving this support. The amount can reach up to $1,500 per child, depending on the area. Families with children born between 2022 and 2024 can also apply to receive part of this support. In March, the city of Hohhot in northern China began giving families up to $17,000 per child for those with at least three children. Reports from Chinese media say the cost of raising a child has become very high. Raising a child until the age of 17 can cost more than $90,000.
