Ambasaddor Christophe Bazivamo has been appointed Secretary General of the FPR–Inkotanyi following changes to the party’s leadership and organisational structure. The decision was made during the party’s 17th National Congress held on Friday, where members approved amendments to the party statutes and endorsed a revised structure of the National Executive Committee. Under the new arrangement, the committee now includes two Vice Presidents and two Secretaries General. During the Congress, Consolée Uwimana was confirmed as First Vice President, while Kayisire Marie Solange was appointed Second Vice President. Bazivamo was endorsed as Secretary General, with Stephen Gasana named Deputy Secretary General. Bazivamo replaces Gasamagera Wellars, who previously held the position. Bazivamo studied at the former National University of Rwanda, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture in 1981. He later obtained a Master’s degree in Agriculture from the University of Göttingen in Germany, specialising in agricultural economics and rural development. His public service career includes serving as Governor of the former Gitarama Prefecture from 1999 to 2000. Between 2000 and the end of 2002, he was Executive Secretary of the National Electoral Commission. From 2002 until 6 May 2011, Bazivamo served as a Cabinet Minister in several portfolios, including Local Government; Lands, Environment, Forestry, Water and Mines; Internal Security; and Agriculture and Animal Resources. He later represented Rwanda in the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) from 2011 to mid-2016, after which he was appointed Deputy Secretary General in charge of Finance and Administration at the East African Community (EAC). Between 2023 and 2025, Bazivamo served as Rwanda’s Ambassador to Nigeria. He has also held the position of Vice President of the RPF–Inkotanyi in 2002.
