Norris first gained recognition as a competitive martial artist, becoming a six-time undefeated world karate champion. In the early 1970s, he appeared alongside Bruce Lee in Way of the Dragon (1972), a collaboration that helped introduce martial arts cinema to wider Western audiences.

He went on to star in a series of action films, including The Delta Force, establishing himself as a defining figure in the genre during the 1980s. He later reached a broader television audience as Cordell Walker in Walker, Texas Ranger, which ran for eight seasons from 1993 to 2001 and became one of his most recognizable roles.

He is survived by his wife, Gena O’Kelley; his sons, Eric and Mike; his daughters, Dakota, Danilee and Dina; and several grandchildren.
