The Primary Court of Nyarugenge has convicted Shema Arnold de Bosscher, widely known as DJ Toxxyk, on multiple charges linked to a fatal road accident and related offenses, while granting him conditional leniency aimed at rehabilitation. In its judgment, the court initially sentenced him to pay a fine of Rwf 1.5 million and perform three months of community service. However, the community service was suspended for six months, meaning he will only serve it if he fails to maintain good behavior during the probation period. The court also ordered his immediate release after the ruling was delivered. DJ Toxxyk had been facing charges including involuntary manslaughter, drug-related offenses, fleeing the scene after causing an accident, and refusing to undergo an alcohol test. These charges stem from an incident that occurred on December 20, 2025, which resulted in the death of a police officer. Authorities also reported the discovery of narcotic substances at his residence during investigations. After reviewing submissions from both the prosecution and defense, the court upheld all charges. However, it waived the financial penalty, taking into account the time he had already spent in pre-trial detention at Nyarugenge Prison. The ruling reflects a balanced approach by the judiciary, combining accountability with an opportunity for reform. It offers DJ Toxxyk a chance to demonstrate responsibility and rebuild his career, while also serving as a reminder of the serious consequences of negligence and unlawful conduct.
