Global Citizen’s Move Afrika tour is set to return in March 2026, bringing Grammy award-winning artist Doja Cat to African stages for the first time as a headliner. But beyond the music, the tour aims to spark long-term economic and social impact, connecting global talent with local creatives and building skills, jobs, and sustainable opportunities across the continent.

A Star-Turn With Purpose

For Doja Cat, the 2026 tour represents more than a headline performance. With South African roots, she embraces Move Afrika as a platform that merges entertainment with social change.

“From my South African roots straight to the world stage, we’re bringing energy, purpose, and real change to Move Afrika in Kigali and Pretoria,” Doja Cat said. “This isn’t just a tour, it’s a movement that creates jobs and opportunities that last. I’m proud to be part of something that celebrates Africa’s creativity, invests in its future, and shows the world that Africa isn’t coming, it’s already here.”

Her performance marks a milestone not only for her career but for Africa’s live music landscape, spotlighting the continent’s influence on global culture while creating opportunities for local talent and production crews.

Building Africa’s Creative Economy

Move Afrika is designed as a long-term platform, not a one-off concert series. Each event intentionally creates paid jobs across live-event roles, from sound and lighting to logistics, technical crews, designers, and vendors. Previous editions have sourced over 90% of staff and equipment locally, generating more than 2,500 opportunities in host cities like Kigali and Lagos.

“Move Afrika is redefining global touring by placing Africa’s creative excellence at the center of the international circuit,” said Hugh Evans, Co-Founder & CEO of Global Citizen. “It strengthens local creative industries and drives long-term economic growth powered by culture.”

This approach aligns with broader efforts to upskill young professionals and create lasting career pathways in Africa’s growing creative sector.

Connecting Music With Social Impact

In addition to job creation, Move Afrika emphasizes social engagement. The 2026 tour will focus on strengthening health systems, particularly primary care, sexual and reproductive health, and access to quality health services. Local partners will lead community-based initiatives to ensure lasting impact, bridging live entertainment with meaningful societal change.

“Move Afrika’s return reflects our continued dedication to elevating Africa’s creative industries and using the influence of global entertainment to drive meaningful progress,” said Jean-Guy Afrika, CEO of Rwanda Development Board. “It supports our vision of Rwanda as a premier destination for live entertainment while delivering lasting benefits for the continent.”

Tour Dates and Cities

Move Afrika 2026 will hit two major cultural hubs:

  • Pretoria, South Africa — SunBet Arena, March 20, 2026

Africa on the Global Stage

Move Afrika’s mission is to position African cities as premier destinations for international live music and cultural events, built by Africans for Africans. Starting in Kigali in 2023, expanding to Lagos in 2025, and now Pretoria in 2026, the tour is steadily transforming the continent’s cultural economy, proving that African cities can host world-class events that meet global standards while celebrating local identity.

By combining live music, economic empowerment, and social impact, Move Afrika exemplifies how global entertainment can drive meaningful change turning culture into opportunity, one city at a time
