On December 17, 2024, French President Emmanuel Macron highlighted the importance of strengthening primary healthcare systems while addressing the inauguration of the World Health Organization (WHO) Academy in France. Macron underscored that training healthcare professionals yields little success if primary healthcare infrastructure remains underdeveloped. He referenced Rwanda’s healthcare advancements as a model, noting the country’s long-term investments under President Paul Kagame’s leadership. “Rwanda demonstrates the benefits of sustained investment in primary healthcare. Their approach has enabled efficient vaccination campaigns and pandemic responses,” Macron stated. Rwanda’s success in containing the recent Marburg virus outbreak within two months was cited as evidence of its robust healthcare system. The country currently boasts over 58,000 community health workers and has a network of 1,252 Health Posts, 513 health centers, and 92 hospitals, ensuring comprehensive healthcare access nationwide. Rwanda aims to quadruple its number of doctors by 2028 to further enhance healthcare delivery.
