The New South Wales Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) has heard allegations that Jean-Claude Perrottet, the brother of former New South Wales Premier Dominic Perrottet, carried out factional political activities while working as a staff member for a Liberal Party politician.

During his appearance before the inquiry, Jean-Claude Perrottet admitted that he performed work linked to the conservative Christian group known as the Reformers while employed in the office of Liberal MP Damien Tudehope.

The inquiry is investigating possible breaches of political donation laws and alleged links between Liberal Party figures and developer Jean Nassif. The allegations first gained public attention in 2022 after claims were raised in the New South Wales Parliament regarding political donations and possible influence over development decisions.

ICAC heard that Perrottet was heavily involved in efforts to strengthen the Reformers’ influence within Liberal Party branches. Under questioning, he acknowledged that factional duties were sometimes carried out during his official working hours, although he said he was unsure whether his employer was aware.

The inquiry also examined text messages and internal communications that suggested frustration among Reformers members over political activities, funding and organisational responsibilities.

Perrottet told the commission that he understood there were expectations that political staff should separate government or parliamentary work from party factional activities. However, he admitted he may not have fully followed those boundaries on some occasions.

The New South Wales ICAC investigation continues to examine the actions of several Liberal Party figures. Former Premier Dominic Perrottet referred the allegations to the commission in 2022 and has not been accused of wrongdoing.

The inquiry, known as Operation Rosny, is expected to continue for several weeks and could have wider implications for the future of political accountability within the New South Wales Liberal Party.
