Introduction of the Strengthening Multicultural Queensland (SMQ) Program One of the most notable changes is the introduction of the new Strengthening Multicultural Queensland (SMQ) program. Previously, multicultural project funding was available under the Celebrating Multicultural Queensland program. Now, it will be offered under the SMQ program, which aims to support projects that: Promote intercultural understanding Foster social inclusion and community cohesion Empower diverse communities By providing financial assistance to a broader range of innovative and strategic projects, the SMQ program aims to create a more inclusive and harmonious multicultural society where everyone is supported to connect, contribute, and belong. Expansion of Project Categories Another significant change is the expansion of the previous Economic and Social Participation project category, now known as the Empowering Multicultural Community category. This new category will fund projects that achieve one or more of the following outcomes: Increase knowledge, skills, and capabilities of individuals Improve health and wellbeing Develop healthy relationships and social connections Enhance the cultural capability of mainstream organizations and services Foster intercultural connections and social cohesion between individuals and groups from diverse cultural and faith backgrounds Enhance economic participation through direct support and opportunities Additionally, the funding amount for this category has increased, with one-off funding of up to $100,000 available for projects that can be delivered over two years. Youth and Community Connection Project Category The Youth and Community Connection project category remains available, providing funding for innovative projects aimed at breaking down barriers faced by young people from culturally diverse backgrounds. These projects, which must be youth-led and delivered, seek to increase access to and inclusion within the community. Funding between $5,000 and $100,000 is available over two years.
