The Indian Armed Forces on Saturday provided new details on Operation Sindoor, asserting that their targeted strikes against militant infrastructure in Pakistan achieved “total surprise,” while also acknowledging the potential cost of combat. In a press briefing, Lieutenant General Rajiv Ghai stated that Indian forces struck nine infrastructure and training facilities linked to armed groups, including Lashkar-e-Taiba, the organization India blames for orchestrating recent deadly attacks in Kashmir. “We achieved total surprise,” Ghai said, describing Pakistan’s military response as “erratic and rattled.” India’s Director General of Military Operations claimed that the strikes killed more than 100 fighters, including several high-ranking militant leaders. However, these figures have not been independently verified. When questioned about possible Indian losses, a spokesperson for the Indian Air Force (IAF) responded, “Losses are a part of combat,” but declined to offer specific numbers. The IAF confirmed, however, that all of its pilots involved in the mission had returned safely. Pakistan’s military has claimed it shot down five Indian fighter jets during the hostilities, including three Rafale aircraft—among the most advanced jets in the Indian fleet. India has neither confirmed nor denied these claims. The developments come amid heightened tensions following weeks of cross-border conflict between the two nuclear-armed nations. Both sides have accused the other of escalating violence, and calls for restraint have intensified from the international community.
