Victoire Ingabire Umuhoza has been arrested by the Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB), at the request of the Prosecution, on allegations including the formation of a criminal gang and planning activities intended to incite public unrest. Her arrest was announced by RIB late Thursday on its official X account. "At the request of the Prosecution, RIB has launched an investigation into Ingabire Umuhoza Victoire, in accordance with a High Court ruling in the case involving Sibomana Sylvain and his co-accused, in order to bring her before the court," read the post. Ingabire is being investigated alongside her co-accused for alleged crimes, including forming a criminal organization and plotting activities aimed at inciting public disorder. She is currently being held at the RIB Remera Station, pending transfer to the Prosecution, the investigation authority added. Her arrest follows her appearance before the High Court in response to a summons related to a criminal case involving nine individuals accused of conspiring to overthrow the government. In the ongoing trial of the nine co-accused, the Prosecution alleges they conspired to destabilize the government. In 2013, Ingabire was sentenced to 13 years in prison but was released in 2018, along with 2,100 other convicts, after President Paul Kagame commuted her sentence.
