After 12 years of living and studying in the United Kingdom, Rwandan singer Kitoko Bibarwa has officially returned home for good. The artist arrived at Kigali International Airport on the morning of November 9, 2025, where he was visibly emotional, shedding tears of joy upon setting foot back in Rwanda. “Please forgive me, I can’t say much because of how emotional I feel. I’m happy to be home,” Kitoko told journalists shortly after arrival. He also praised RwandAir, saying, “It was my first time flying with RwandAir, but the service showed me that I’m truly home.” Kitoko’s return comes ahead of his highly anticipated performance at Davido’s concert in Kigali, scheduled for December 5, 2025. Speaking to reporters, the singer said he was thrilled that his return coincided with a professional opportunity. “This trip means a lot to me. I’m home, and I’ve been blessed with this contract. I’m ready. I know people missed me just as much as I missed them,” he said. When asked whether returning home was a difficult decision, Kitoko explained that leaving Rwanda years ago was harder than coming back. “It’s never difficult to come home. The hardest decision was leaving. Coming back is easy, and I’m happy you all still remember me.” The artist, who plans to stay permanently in Rwanda, revealed that while he may explore new professional opportunities, music will always remain part of his life. “I’ll keep making music, but I’m also open to trying other ventures. I believe in going where opportunities exist.” Addressing speculation about whether his return is linked to marriage plans, Kitoko smiled and said, “That’s not part of the plan right now, but if it happens, it would be a blessing.” Kitoko rose to fame in 2008 with his debut hit Ikiragi, followed by a series of successful songs that made him one of Rwanda’s most celebrated artists. He moved to the UK in 2013 to further his education and last visited Rwanda in 2017, when he participated in President Kagame’s re-election campaign. In 2022, Kitoko completed his Master’s degree in Politics at London South Bank University and later pursued further studies at London Metropolitan University. His return marks a new chapter for the artist—one filled with emotion, hope, and renewed connection with his homeland.
