Rwanda's Minister of Health, Dr. Sabin Nsanzimana, and the Director General of the International Vaccine Institute, Dr. Jerome H. Kim, signed a Host Country Agreement on Monday, November 25, 2024, to establish the headquarters of the International Vaccine Institute (IVI) Africa Office in Rwanda. "This milestone marks a significant step toward the sustained advancement of healthcare research and equitable access to vaccines across the continent and beyond," the Ministry of Health posted on X. In October 2023, the Board of Directors of IVI decided to establish its headquarters in Africa, following the establishment of two more offices on the European continent in Sweden and Austria. The International Vaccine Institute (IVI) is a non-profit international organization established in 1997 at the initiative of the United Nations Development Program, with a mission to discover, develop, and deliver safe, effective, and affordable vaccines for global health. Rwanda continues its journey to become the hub of health in Africa and currently hosts a branch of BioNTech, which uses mRNA technology in the production of vaccines and medicines.
