February this year. The forum returns after a one year break with the last edition having been held in January 2024. The upcoming gathering will mark the 20th edition of the Umushyikirano since its inception in 2003. Umushyikirano, officially known as the National Dialogue Council is Rwanda’s annual high level forum that brings together national leaders and citizens to openly discuss the country’s progress, challenges and future priorities. Chaired by the President of the Republic, the summit provides a unique platform where Rwandans from all walls of life including government officials, parliamentarians, civil society, youth, private sector actors and the diaspora engage in direct dialogue, ask questions and propose solutions on key national issues. Rooted in Rwanda’s Constitution, Umushyikirano promotes accountability, transparency and inclusive governance by ensuring that citizens’ voices play a central role in shaping policy decisions and the country’s development agenda.

, expectations are high that this year’s national dialogue will focus on assessing Rwanda’s socio-economic progress, addressing emerging challenges and setting clear priorities for the years ahead. Discussions are expected to center on economic transformation, service delivery, youth employment and the implementation of national development strategies, with citizens once again given a direct platform to engage leaders. More than a review forum, Umushyikirano 2026 is anticipated to reinforce accountability, strengthen citizen–leadership trust and reaffirm Rwanda’s commitment to inclusive people-centered governance as the country continues its journey toward sustainable development.
