Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense has reported that Russia launched 352 drone attacks and 16 missile strikes on the capital, Kyiv, resulting in the deaths of seven people. The attacks took place overnight, from Sunday, June 22, into the early hours of Monday. Ukraine’s Minister of Interior Ihor Klymenko, accused Russia of targeting critical infrastructure, including hospitals, sports facilities, and residential areas. Vitaliy Klitschko, the Mayor of Kyiv, stated that most of the casualties were residents of high-rise buildings, and 19 people were injured. Both Russia and Ukraine have increasingly shifted the war to the skies, relying heavily on drone warfare. On May 24, Ukraine’s Air Force reported that Russia had launched 250 drone attacks and over 14 missile strikes on Kyiv, injuring 14 people and setting multiple residential buildings on fire. On the same day, Russia’s Ministry of Defense announced that it had intercepted a large drone assault involving more than 100 drones launched from Ukraine. Since February 2022, Russia and Ukraine have been at war following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which the Kremlin claimed was intended to prevent Ukraine and its NATO allies from threatening Russian interests. Currently, both countries are engaged in ongoing talks aimed at ending the war.
