Rwanda has received an honorary award as the African country with the best and most advanced infrastructure supporting tourism. The recognition was announced at the African Tourism Awards, an initiative that promotes tourism development across the continent by honoring countries, organizations, and individuals who have made significant contributions to the industry. This year’s ceremony was held in London, United Kingdom, on November 2, 2025. Rwanda earned the award for its modern, high-quality infrastructure that supports tourism and hospitality. Rwanda’s Embassy to the United Kingdom,, said the recognition reflects the country’s investment in world-class hotels, eco-friendly lodges, and state-of-the-art facilities for conferences and major events. Rwanda was also nominated in other categories, including Best Tourism Country and Best National Park for Volcanoes National Park. The Rwanda Development Board (RDB) competed in the Best Tourism Organization category, while Visit Rwanda was shortlisted for Best Tourism Promotion Initiative. The award comes as Rwanda continues to invest heavily in tourism, conference, and events infrastructure. Major projects include high-end international hotels such as the Kigali Marriott Hotel, Kigali Serena Hotel, Radisson Blu Hotel and Kigali Convention Centre, and the soon-to-open Mövenpick Kigali all five-star establishments. Beyond Kigali, luxury hotels have been developed in key tourism destinations, including One & Only Gorilla’s Nest and Wilderness Bisate near Volcanoes National Park. Rwanda also boasts modern infrastructure such as BK Arena, Amahoro Stadium, and the Kigali Convention Centre, which host international conferences, concerts, and sports events. In 2024, Rwanda’s tourism sector generated $647 million a 4.3% increase from the previous year. The growth was driven mainly by a 27% rise in revenue from gorilla tourism and an 11% increase in air travel. That year, the country welcomed more than 1.36 million visitors and hosted over 115 conferences and events attended by 52,000 participants from around the world. Business and conference tourism alone brought in more than $84.8 million in revenue.
