January 2026, when the infant was discovered abandoned in the Nzega district of Tabora. Local authorities and social welfare officers spent nearly two months attempting to trace the child’s biological parents or relatives. When all efforts proved unsuccessful, the Nzega district Commissioner, Naitapwaki Tukai, brought the matter to the President’s attention during a recent working tour.

, the President finalized the process, receiving the child in Dodoma. Dressed in a bright yellow outfit, the baby was handed over to the President by Commissioner Tukai and social welfare officials. Holding the child, President Samia used the moment to deliver a stern yet compassionate message to the nation. She emphasized that every child is a gift from God and that personal or economic hardships should never lead to the endangerment of a life. "Children are treasures to our nation," the President stated. "If a parent feels they cannot provide care, there are legal channels, social welfare offices and registered centers that can help. Abandoning a child in a dangerous environment is not the answer." By naming the child Grace Samia Suluhu Hassan, the President has signaled that the girl will be raised as a full member of her family with all the protections and opportunities afforded to her. Beyond the personal act of kindness, the event serves as a call to action for Tanzanian citizens to strengthen community based child protection systems and for the government to continue streamlining the adoption process for those willing to provide a home to children in need.
