Former Ugandan Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among is expected to face prosecution after investigators completed a case file into allegations of corruption, marking a major development in one of the country's most high-profile political investigations. According to local reports, prosecutors have finalized the investigation file, leaving only the formal filing of charges. A source familiar with the probe said it is now "a matter of time" before legal proceedings begin. The investigation has focused on allegations involving corruption, wealth declaration and the management of parliamentary resources. Authorities from the Inspectorate of Government and the Criminal Investigations Directorate have searched properties linked to Among in Nakasero, Kigo and Bukedea, seizing documents, electronic devices and luxury vehicles, including a Rolls-Royce and a Range Rover. The probe has also widened to Parliament's administration. Seven senior parliamentary officials have already been charged before Uganda's Anti-Corruption Court with offences including embezzlement, causing financial loss and money laundering involving billions of Ugandan shillings allegedly diverted between 2023 and 2026. Among has consistently denied any wrongdoing. Speaking recently at her residence in Nakasero, she dismissed allegations that investigators found large sums of hidden cash or other incriminating evidence during the searches. She also expressed confidence that President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni handled the matter fairly and reaffirmed her loyalty to the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM). The former Speaker withdrew from the race for Speaker of the 12th Parliament amid the ongoing investigations and was replaced by Jacob Oboth Oboth. With the prosecution file now complete, attention turns to when formal charges will be filed, a move that could mark a defining moment in Uganda's fight against corruption.
