On Saturday, March 1, at the La Corniche One Stop Border Post in Rubavu District, AFC/M23 handed over to Rwanda members of the Congo-based FDLR genocidal militia, including high-ranking officers Brig. Gen. Gakwerere Ezechiel, Major Ndayambaje Gilbert, and others. The FDLR members, captured by M23 rebels during clashes with a large coalition of the Congolese army in eastern DR Congo, in Goma, the capital of DR Congo's North Kivu Province. These genocidal militias had allied with the FARDC, Burundian soldiers, SAMIDRC, European mercenaries, and Wazalendo against the M23. FDLR, a DR Congo-based terrorist group formed by remnants of those responsible for the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda, poses a direct threat to Rwanda's security. On February 21, the UN Security Council adopted a resolution condemning the Congolese government’s continued support of the FDLR. Reports from the United Nations indicate that the Kinshasa government collaborates with the FDLR by providing them with military equipment, training, and financial support, with the aim of overthrowing the Rwandan government. The genocidal militia's goal is to forcibly return to Rwanda and continue its genocidal agenda.
