President Paul Kagame met with President Abdelmadjid Tebboune of Algeria to discuss ways to further strengthen the ongoing fruitful bilateral cooperation in key areas. The heads of state met in Mauritania, Nouakchott, where they attended the Continental Forum on Education and Youth Employability. The office of the president stated, "They discussed ways to further strengthen the ongoing fruitful bilateral cooperation in key areas including education, defense, security, as well as opportunities for new partnerships in agriculture and infrastructure." Both countries have previously agreed on concrete steps to maintain the momentum in their growing relationship through the activation of bilateral cooperation mechanisms, notably the Joint Commission for Economic Cooperation and the extension of cooperation to other fields such as energy and pharmaceuticals. Diplomats from Rwanda and Algeria have also met to emphasize the need to enhance bilateral coordination on the challenges of peace and security, which are significant to both countries. In January 2024, Algerian Ambassador to Rwanda Mohamed Mellah hinted at the prospect of signing several agreements between the two countries, including visa waiver programs, trade, and military cooperation agreements.
