President Paul Kagame and EU Council President António Costa held a fruitful discussion on the situation in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), agreed on the need for effective de-escalation and a resolution to the conflict through political dialogue. On Wednesday, February 5, President Kagame shared on his X account that he had a productive conversation with EU Council President António Costa. They discussed the situation in the DRC and emphasized the importance of de-escalation and resolving the conflict through political dialogue to ensure lasting peace. “We stressed the need for all parties associated with finding a solution to be responsible and level-headed, even with the complexity of the problem,” President Kagame wrote on his X account. They also exchanged views on the ongoing strong cooperation between the European Union and Rwanda across key sectors. Rwanda and the EU have developed a multifaceted partnership that includes economic cooperation, political dialogue, and development initiatives. In February 2024, Rwanda and the EU signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Sustainable Raw Materials. This agreement aims to integrate sustainable raw material value chains, promote responsible production, mobilize infrastructure funding, foster research and innovation, and strengthen regulatory enforcement.
