Rwanda and Indonesia have signed three memorandums of understanding (MoUs) in the fields of General Cooperation, Political Consultation, and Visa waiver for diplomatic and service passport holders.
The MoUs were signed on June 6th in Jakarta, Indonesia, by Rwanda's Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and his counterpart, Ms. Retno Marsudi, after a fruitful bilateral meeting.
"Last year, Rwanda set out to open its Embassy in Jakarta, which we will inaugurate later today. This will mark a new chapter in Indonesia-Rwanda relations," Indonesia's Foreign Affairs Ministry said in a press release.
According to a statement released by the Indonesian Foreign Affairs Ministry, "Rwanda is one of Indonesia's closest friends in Africa. Our two leaders have expressed their strong commitment to deepening our bilateral relations."
Both foreign ministers discussed "General Cooperation, Political Consultation, and Visa waiver for diplomatic and service passport holders."
The MoU on Political and Security Cooperation will serve as a basis to discuss various aspects of bilateral cooperation and exchange views on regional and international issues.
"Indonesia and Rwanda have also intensified security cooperation in recent years. We are now finalizing an MoU between Indonesia and Rwanda National Police on combating transnational organized crimes and enhancing capacity building. Hopefully, it will be signed soon," revealed the press statement of Indonesia's Minister of Foreign Affairs.
The ministers also signed an Agreement on Visa Exemption for Holders of Diplomatic and Service Passport that will simplify regulations on the entry and stay for officials from both countries and contribute to the strengthening of our friendly ties.
Indonesia has granted Rwanda a Visa on Arrival (VoA) status since February last year to intensify people-to-people contact, including B-to-B engagement.
