President Paul Kagame said on Monday, June 17 that the conglomerate of journalists who are really up in arms against Rwanda are just wasting their time.
President Kagame made this announcement during an exclusive interview with Rwanda Broadcasting Agency, covering a range of topics ahead of the upcoming presidential and parliamentary campaigns which begin this week.
“I have seen a conglomerate of journalists who are really up in arms against us. But they are just wasting their time. They should have used their money and energy for something else. Rwanda is there, will prosper, and will be better every year in spite of them,” President Kagame said in an interview with RBA.
In recent days, a group of more than 50 journalists, mostly from Europe and from 17 newspapers, started publishing a series of stories called "Forbidden Stories".
These types of stories seem to be breaking and damaging Rwanda's reputation before the July election.
This activity, called 'Forbidden Stories', might lead readers to believe that they are about to read special news about Rwanda. However, the content is normal information that is always used by those who have bad intentions for Rwanda.
These journalists have claimed that there is no freedom of speech in Rwanda. However, data from the 2021 Rwanda Media Barometer shows that the freedom of the press is rated at 93.7%, while the freedom of expression is at 86.4%.
