Over 200 people gathered in Washington D.C., United States of America, to celebrate the 30th celebration of Rwanda's liberation, #Kwibohora30.
This reflection event on Rwanda's remarkable journey from devastation to prosperity was attended by the Diplomatic corps, Members of Congress, think tanks, media, academia, and friends of Rwanda.
Bonafide Tuyishime, who spoke on behalf of the youth in the Diaspora, narrated what Rwanda has been able to achieve in the last 30 years, including the opportunities available today.
“A country where children can dream big and know that their dreams will be supported in all ways possible. In this room, we have many young people who, with the support of our country, have been able to achieve those dreams. I am one such lucky person who has benefited tremendously from the opportunities that the newly liberated Rwanda offers,” she said.

Ambassador Hilda Mapfudze, the Permanent Representative of the African Union in Washington, D.C., praised Rwanda's progress.
“Rwanda has become a model of rising from the ashes and becoming a leader in all aspects of development. The phenomenal leadership of President Kagame has led to the growth of its economy at rates that amaze many,” she said.

During her remarks, Ambassador Mathilde Mukantabana highlighted the nation's resilience and determination, saying “Rwanda has been able to come this far because we owned up and took the lead in addressing our challenges.
"The leadership of Rwanda has made a clear choice going forward; the choice to trust ourselves, expect excellence, and take ownership.”
She encouraged young people to use their talents to build a better world for everyone.
Quoting President Paul Kagame, Mukantabana said: “Rwanda is yours to protect, defend, and make prosperous. It is worth repeating that real liberation only begins when the guns fall silent.”
Every July 4, Rwandans and friends of Rwanda, wherever they are, celebrate Liberation Day, the day when the Liberation Struggle ended and the beginning of Rwanda's rebirth.
