Musanze FC delivered one of their most memorable performances in recent years after narrowly defeating APR FC 3–2 in a thrilling Matchday 8 league encounter played at Ubworoherane Stadium. The match began shortly after rainfall in Musanze District, creating a wet and unpredictable surface that the home side adapted to better than their opponents.

From kickoff, Musanze FC showed superior energy and tactical readiness. Their early pressure immediately paid off when Mutsinzi Charles scored in the sixth minute after receiving a well-placed ball inside the penalty area. The hosts continued to dominate, particularly through midfielders Ntijyinama Patrick, Bizimungu Omar, and Mutsinzi Charles, while wingers Lethabo and Katembo Lubila stretched APR’s defense. In the 19th minute, Musanze doubled their lead through Shaban Hussein “Tshabalala,” who headed home from a perfectly delivered corner.

APR FC, who had adjusted their defense by pairing Nshimiyimana Yunusu with Aliou Soune, struggled to cope with Musanze’s intensity. Their only significant first-half chance came in the 16th minute from a powerful strike by Mugisha Gilbert, but goalkeeper Nsabimana Jean de Dieu produced a brilliant save. Musanze’s aerial superiority continued to trouble APR, and in the 39th minute, Bizimungu Omar scored their third goal another header from a corner sending their supporters into wild celebration. The first half ended with Musanze holding a commanding 3–0 lead.

In the second half, APR FC pushed forward in search of a comeback. Omborenga Fitina forced another outstanding save from Nsabimana early in the half, showing APR’s growing urgency. They eventually pulled one back in the 61st minute after Musanze defenders failed to clear a wet ball, allowing left-back Murangamirwa Serge to slot it in.

Both teams made several substitutions as intensity increased. APR continued to pile pressure and were rewarded again in the 87th minute when William Togui scored their second goal, reigniting hope among APR supporters.

Seven minutes of added time created dramatic tension. APR nearly equalized when Ronald Ssekiganda’s shot was pushed into the air by Nsabimana, with the ball staying dangerously close to the goal line before being cleared. From the resulting corner, the goalkeeper made yet another heroic save—solidifying his man-of-the-match performance.

After surviving APR’s late surge, Musanze FC secured a 3–2 victory only the third time in their history they have beaten APR FC, with the previous win also occurring at Ubworoherane Stadium on February 16, 2022.
