Rayon Sports failed to secure a win despite making several changes to their starting lineup following two consecutive defeats. In a tense Matchday 8 clash at Kigali Pelé Stadium on Sunday, AS Kigali defeated the Blues 2–0, extending Rayon Sports’ struggle to regain form. The Burundian interim coach, Haruna Ferouz, blamed the loss on his players’ refusal to follow tactical instructions. “Today we conceded early goals because the players were not focused. This is exactly what I told them: if you don’t do what the coach instructs, and you choose to do your own things, the consequences follow. It’s like when your father tells you to be home by 8pm and you show up at 11pm — you face the punishment,” he said. Ferouz expressed disappointment in the players’ attitude, insisting the match was winnable. “The way we trained and the way we approached this game, we believed victory was possible. The management did their part, but some players mentally switch off too quickly,” he added. Regarding lineup changes, Ferouz explained that most adjustments were due to illness or injury, not match-fixing rumors circulating after their 3–0 loss to APR FC. “Some were sick. Adebi was unwell, Seif caught typhoid after the previous match, and Serumogo is injured. Those rumours about players leaving camp are not true; anyone who attended training saw that they were present but couldn’t train,” he clarified. Goalkeeper Pavelh Ndzila was not excluded, as Ferouz wanted to give young players like Yves Mugisha confidence. “We have three goalkeepers; one must remain out. You don’t keep the same team after a defeat. I trust the young boy Yves — he can handle the pressure if we continue giving him confidence,” said Ferouz. Rayon Sports’ starting eleven against AS Kigali was: Mugisha Yves, Youssou Diagne, Emery Bayisenge, Paul Jesus Sindi, Emmanuel “Kabange” Nshimiyimana, Richard Ndayishimiye, Ishimwe Fiston, Adama Bagayogo, Habimana Yves, Tony Kitoga, and Aziz Bassane. AS Kigali took advantage of Rayon Sports’ defensive lapses to score two well-coordinated goals, while the Blues struggled to create meaningful chances. Despite a consolation effort, they could not reduce the deficit. This defeat leaves Rayon Sports fourth on the league table with 13 points, behind leaders Police FC by seven points and Musanze FC and Gasogi United by two points each. The Blues will look to bounce back when they travel to face Gicumbi FC on 29 November.
