Amahoro Stadium is in the running for the Best Football Stadium in the World award for 2024, competing against top contenders such as Real Madrid’s Santiago Bernabéu, Kingdom Arena (Saudi Arabia), and other renowned venues worldwide. Since 2012, the StadiumDB.com platform has organized an annual competition where the public votes for the best football stadium. This year’s competition features 23 stadiums that either opened or underwent significant renovations in the past year. Among the nominees are Amahoro Stadium in Kigali, Santiago Bernabéu (Spain), Egypt Stadium, Hamz Stadium (Uganda), Kingdom Arena (Saudi Arabia), Mâs Monumental (Argentina), and others. To vote, participants must select their top five stadiums from the list of 23 candidates, assigning 5 stars to their top choice, 4 stars to the second, and so on, down to 1 star for their fifth choice. “Remember to select five stadiums; otherwise, your vote won't be counted! When all points are distributed, press the ‘Vote’ button below the list. And that's it—your contribution is then accepted,” the organizer instructed voters. The winning stadium is determined not only by its size or architectural beauty but primarily by the number of votes it receives. In the 2024 edition, Amahoro Stadium, recently inaugurated by President Paul Kagame after two years of renovation, is among the nominated venues. On July 1, 2024, President Paul Kagame officially inaugurated the newly renovated 45,000-seat Amahoro Stadium alongside the President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Dr. Patrice Motsepe. During the event, CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe praised the newly renovated stadium and commended President Kagame for his visionary leadership. “This is one of the most beautiful and best stadiums in Africa and the world. We, as Rwandans, we, as Africans, should be proud and thank our President for his leadership in building this world-class stadium,” he said on July 1, 2024.
