Rwanda’s national team, Amavubi, delivered a dominant performance to defeat Grenada 4-0 in a historic FIFA Series 2026 match held at Amahoro Stadium, in front of President Paul Kagame. This encounter marked a special milestone, as it was the first time Rwanda national football team faced a non-African opponent, with Grenada national football team also playing against African opposition for the first time. From the opening minutes, Amavubi showed clear intent, dominating possession and creating multiple scoring chances. Although early opportunities from Biramahire Abeddy and Bizimana Djihad went begging, the pressure eventually paid off late in the first half. In added time of the first half (45+1’), Mickels Leroy-Jacques broke the deadlock with a powerful long-range strike. Just minutes later (45+5’), Kwizera Jojea doubled the lead after a brilliant solo effort, giving Rwanda a comfortable 2-0 advantage at halftime. The second half saw Rwanda maintain their intensity. Captain Bizimana Djihad extended the lead in the 68th minute with a stunning long-range effort that left the Grenadian goalkeeper with no chance. The fourth goal came in the 80th minute when Hakim Sahabo’s shot was deflected into the net by a Grenada defender. Grenada struggled throughout the match, rarely threatening Rwanda’s defense, with goalkeeper Kwizera Olivier enjoying a relatively calm evening. Coach Torsten Spittler made several substitutions to maintain energy and control, introducing players like Muhire Kevin, Samuel Gueulette, and Imanishimwe Emmanuel “Mangwende,” as Rwanda continued to push for more goals. The match ended 4-0, a result that underlines Amavubi’s growing confidence and tactical discipline on the international stage. With such a commanding victory witnessed by the Head of State, this performance will be remembered as a defining moment in Rwanda’s football history.
