APR BBC and Patriots BBC have secured their places in the Rwanda Basketball League men’s playoff final after decisive victories in Game 5 of their respective semi-final series on Friday night at Petit Stade in Remera. APR produced the night’s most convincing performance, defeating RSSB Tigers 105–78 to seal the series 3–2. Patriots, meanwhile, edged REG BBC 83–79 to also win their series 3–2 and book a place in the championship final. APR came into the decisive Game 5 knowing there was no room for error after the two teams had split the opening four games. The army side immediately took control, with Axel Mpoyo and Craig Randall leading the scoring as APR opened a 32–17 advantage after the first quarter. RSSB Tigers responded in the second quarter, with Tarik Bey helping reduce the deficit. However, APR maintained its composure and went into halftime leading 47–40. The third quarter saw APR regain full control. Randall and Teafale Lenard helped the defending side extend its advantage to 21 points at one stage before APR entered the final quarter with an 80–63 lead. With the final within reach, APR relied on its experience and offensive depth. Randall, Adonis Filer and Mpoyo continued to punish Tigers, while RSSB struggled to maintain its intensity in the closing minutes. The 105–78 victory sent APR into the championship final for the fourth consecutive season, keeping its bid for another league title alive. Patriots had to work harder for their place in the final, overcoming REG BBC 83–79 in a closely contested encounter. Stubbs Jeffery Tyrone played a key role in Patriots’ victory as they completed the 3–2 series win. The result sets up an all-Rwandan basketball showdown between APR BBC and Patriots BBC, with both sides now four wins away from lifting the league trophy. Game 1 of the best-of-seven final is scheduled for Sunday, August 16, 2026. The team that reaches four victories first will be crowned Rwanda Basketball League champions.
