APR FC have advanced to the final qualifying round of the 2026 CAF Champions League after producing a strong comeback victory over DR Congo side Les Aigles du Congo at Amahoro Stadium on Friday. The Rwandan champions won 3–0 in the second leg, overturning a 1–0 defeat suffered in the first leg in Lubumbashi. APR FC therefore progressed 3–1 on aggregate and kept their hopes of reaching the Champions League group stage alive. APR FC captain Cheikh Djibril Ouattara opened the scoring in the 32nd minute after a dangerous situation inside the Les Aigles du Congo penalty area. The goal levelled the aggregate score and gave APR FC renewed confidence before half-time. The hosts continued to control the game after the break and were rewarded again in the 59th minute. Ishimwe Christian found the back of the net from a free-kick situation to put APR FC ahead on the night and 2–1 ahead on aggregate. Ouattara then completed his impressive individual performance from the penalty spot. APR FC were awarded a penalty in the 74th minute after the captain was brought down inside the box, and he converted two minutes later to make it 3–0. Les Aigles du Congo pushed forward in search of a goal that could have changed the tie, particularly during the closing stages. However, APR FC remained disciplined defensively and held on to secure a convincing victory. The visitors came close to scoring in stoppage time when Tonny Talasi Madudu struck the post in the 90+4th minute, but APR FC survived the late pressure. The victory sends APR FC into the final qualifying round, one step away from the CAF Champions League group stage. The Rwandan side will face either Egyptian giants Zamalek SC or Djibouti's AS Port. Zamalek currently hold the advantage after winning the first leg 2–1 away from home. The decisive second leg is scheduled to take place in Cairo on Saturday. For APR FC, Friday's victory represents more than just a comeback against Les Aigles du Congo. It is another important step in their pursuit of a place among Africa's elite clubs in the CAF Champions League group stage
