The Rwanda Basketball Federation (FERWABA) has signed a new four-year partnership with BRALIRWA Plc, a deal expected to significantly support the development of basketball across the country. The agreement, signed on March 6, 2026, is valued at over Rwf700 million, with BRALIRWA committing Rwf175 million annually until 2029 through its Cheetah Energy Drink.

Strengthening Rwanda’s basketball competitions

The sponsorship will support competitions organized by Rwanda Basketball Federation, including the First Division League, Second Division League, and the Playoffs. Beyond financial support, BRALIRWA will also hold the exclusive rights to sell beverages during basketball competitions, strengthening the commercial structure of Rwanda’s basketball ecosystem.

Opportunity for young talent

FERWABA President Desire Mugwiza said the partnership will play a key role in strengthening youth development programs and improving the quality of competitions. According to Mugwiza, the investment will help create more opportunities for young players, support clubs, and promote professionalism within the sport. Continuing a growing partnership This is not the first collaboration between FERWABA and BRALIRWA. The two institutions first partnered in 2022, signing a three-year agreement worth Rwf240 million.

The new deal represents a major increase in investment, reflecting the growing popularity of basketball in Rwanda and the increasing confidence of corporate sponsors in the sport.

With this partnership in place, stakeholders believe Rwandan basketball could continue its rapid growth both locally and internationally, while creating better opportunities for players, clubs, and fans.
