APR FC opted to block the move citing the late approach from Al Hilal and the difficulty of securing a suitable replacement with only two days remaining before the transfer window closes. Club officials believe letting the defender leave at this stage would weaken the squad during a crucial phase of the season.

Niyigena, 25, still has five months remaining on his current contract with the army side and will therefore continue his stay at APR FC for the remainder of the campaign.

Sources close to the negotiations reveal that Al Hilal had tabled an offer of approximately $120,000 for the defender. The Sudanese club were also prepared to hand Niyigena a three-and-a-half-year contract, with a monthly salary of $6,000 and a $75,000 signing-on bonus—nearly double his current earnings of $3,500 per month at APR FC.

Despite the attractive personal terms, APR FC maintained their position, stressing that the timing of the bid left them with little room to manoeuvre in the transfer market.

Meanwhile, a source close to the player has confirmed that APR FC have already presented Niyigena with an improved contract offer, aimed at securing his long-term future at the club. However, the defender is yet to put pen to paper, leaving his situation one to monitor closely in the coming months.

Niyigena remains an important figure in APR FC’s defensive setup and is expected to continue playing a key role as the club competes on multiple fronts.
