FERWAFA has been ordered by FIFA to pay former Rwanda national team head coach Adel Amrouche $360,000, equivalent to more than Rwf530 million, following a dispute over the termination of his contract. FERWAFA has been ordered by FIFA to pay former Rwanda national team head coach Adel Amrouche $360,000, equivalent to more than Rwf530 million, following a dispute over the termination of his contract. The amount reportedly includes outstanding salaries, bonuses and compensation after FIFA determined that his dismissal was not carried out in accordance with the terms of his contract. The decision puts another financial burden on Rwanda’s football governing body, which has confirmed receiving FIFA’s ruling. FERWAFA Secretary General Bonnie Mugabe said the federation is awaiting detailed information on the decision before determining its next move, including the possibility of appealing to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). Amrouche was appointed Rwanda’s head coach in February 2025 on a two-year contract but was dismissed in January 2026. During his time in charge, the Belgian-Algerian coach recorded only one victory with the Amavubi, a win over Zimbabwe in September. He was subsequently replaced by 63-year-old English coach Stephen Constantine, who was also handed a two-year contract. The latest ruling adds to FERWAFA’s history of costly disputes with former national team coaches. In 2018, former Amavubi coach Jonathan McKinstry was reportedly awarded more than Rwf150 million following his departure. The Amrouche case therefore raises fresh questions about how coaching contracts are negotiated and terminated, while FERWAFA now considers whether to challenge FIFA’s latest decision at CAS.
