The President of the Rwandan Football Federation (FERWAFA) today presented to FIFA President Gianni Infantino the latest developments and priorities shaping the future of football in Rwanda. The discussions reflected Rwanda’s growing role in international football and its commitment to building a sustainable football ecosystem. Rwanda, in collaboration with the Government of Rwanda, has secured the hosting rights for the FIFA SERIES 2026 (both Men and Women) scheduled for March 2026. This marks another milestone in Rwanda’s positioning as a trusted host of global football events, following the successful organization of the 73rd FIFA Congress in Kigali last year. In March 2026, FERWAFA will inaugurate a state-of-the-art accommodation facility, which will also serve as a FIFA Academy Concept. This initiative is expected to advance youth talent development and provide structured pathways for nurturing the next generation of Rwandan footballers. Four new artificial pitches are currently under construction in Kigali (FERWAFA facility), Gicumbi, Rutsiro, and Rusizi. These projects, supported by FIFA, are set for completion by December 2025 and are designed to expand access to quality training and playing surfaces across the country. FERWAFA also reported progress on the FIFA Arena Project, which will feature 10 mini-pitches. The Government of Rwanda, through SportsRwanda, has been instrumental in backing this project, which aims to create inclusive football spaces for communities and youth. A key highlight was the exploration of Football Video Support (FVS), a new VAR platform that could enhance refereeing standards in Rwanda. Additionally, Rwanda has been selected to host FIFA Regional Courses for Referee Instructors in Africa, strengthening referee education and expertise on the continent. FERWAFA, in partnership with FIFA Medical and AFHRA, successfully concluded a CPR & AED training program (18–19 September 2025). Sixty medics from Rwanda Premier League clubs and national teams were trained in life-saving techniques, reinforcing the federation’s focus on player safety and welfare.
