Espoir FC, a popular football club in Rusizi District, has started a new project called “My Espoir” to help solve money problems and involve fans in supporting the team. The goal is to make the club stronger financially and reduce its heavy dependence on money from the district.
The project was officially launched on July 20, 2025, by club president Kamuzinzi Godefroid. Espoir FC has faced challenges in the past, including being sent to the third division for using an ineligible player. But now, the team is focused on making a strong comeback not just in football but also in management.
Fans can join the “My Espoir” project by choosing how much they want to contribute each month. There are five categories:
Supporters – 100,000 RWF/month
Champions – 50,000 RWF/month
Core Members – 10,000 RWF/month
Members – 5,000 RWF/month
Starter Members – 1,000 RWF/month
The money collected will help pay for club activities, including staff and players' salaries, and reduce the need for funding from Rusizi District, which used to pay about 90% of the club’s expenses.
Espoir FC is also working with businesses to raise more funds. For example, a transport company working on the Rusizi–Kigali route will give at least 500,000 RWF per month through advertising. A local fuel station will also help by asking fans and moto-taxi drivers to refuel there, with part of the money going to the club.
Rusizi District Mayor Phanuel Sindayiheba said the district will still support the club. For the 2025/26 football season, the district will give 83 million RWF, the same amount as last season. The “My Espoir” project is expected to bring in an extra 217 million RWF.
This project is not just about money it is about building a strong connection between Espoir FC and its fans. The club wants fans to feel like part-owners and key players in its future. It’s a new beginning for Espoir FC, one that brings hope, unity, and pride to the people of Rusizi.
