Rayon Sports head coach Haringingo Francis has insisted that his team still has a chance to win the Rwanda Premier League title despite suffering a disappointing 1-0 defeat against AS Muhanga. The Burundian tactician made the remarks during the post-match press conference after a difficult afternoon in which Rayon Sports struggled to impose themselves against an energetic AS Muhanga side. The defeat dealt another major blow to Rayon’s title ambitions, especially after conceding an early goal and failing to create enough clear scoring opportunities throughout the game. Despite the setback, Haringingo maintained that the title race is not over yet, pointing out that league leaders APR FC still have difficult fixtures ahead, including matches against Sudanese-backed sides Al Hilal SC and Al Merrikh SC. “I said it before, everything would depend on today’s game,” Haringingo said. “APR FC still has a difficult match and we do not know how it will end. I believe a team only loses the title when the league officially ends. We are still fighting for the championship. We still have matches that can give us opportunities, even if they are small. In football, everything is still possible.” The coach also provided an update on injuries within the squad. He explained that Ramazani Tshimanga’s injury may not be serious despite the player leaving the pitch before the end of the match. However, he confirmed that defender Fall Ngagne is expected to miss the remainder of the season after suffering a more serious injury. Haringingo further reflected on the challenges of facing teams battling relegation, admitting that such matches are often more difficult than expected because of the determination shown by struggling sides. “In football, you should never underestimate any opponent,” he explained. “You can see that even a team at the bottom can defeat a stronger side. Teams fighting relegation are always difficult because they play with maximum commitment. We did not enter the match strongly enough and after conceding early, it became difficult for us to recover.” The defeat leaves Rayon Sports facing an uphill battle in the title race. The club currently sits fourth on the league table with 49 points, seven behind leaders APR FC, who top the standings with 56 points. Although the gap appears difficult to close with only a few matches remaining, Haringingo believes his players must continue fighting until the end of the season.
