Kiyovu Sports have been crowned champions of the 2026 FERWAFA Super Cup after defeating Police FC 1-0 in the final at Kigali Pelé Stadium on Sunday. The victory gave Kiyovu the inaugural edition of the competition in its new four-team format, which brought together sides that performed strongly during the 2025/26 season. The final was a closely contested affair, with both teams struggling to create clear chances during the opening half. The game opened up after the break, with Kiyovu putting Police under increased pressure. Hakim Hamis came close in the 49th minute when his powerful effort went narrowly over the crossbar, while Police responded moments later with a dangerous corner that ended with Kwitonda Alain’s effort being saved by Kiyovu goalkeeper James Desire. Kiyovu coach Harrison Mark Simon made several changes as the match progressed, introducing Mugisha Didier, Gihozo David and Avit Nkundimana. Police coach Rkyek Jaafar also made substitutions in an attempt to change the course of the game. Kiyovu finally broke the deadlock in the 83rd minute. Defender Ntwali Asman delivered a well-placed ball into the penalty area, where Hakim Hamis reacted quickly to guide it into the net and give Kiyovu the lead. The goal proved decisive as Kiyovu held on to claim the trophy despite finishing third in last season’s league campaign. FERWAFA will award Kiyovu Sports Rwf40 million for winning the competition, while Police FC will receive Rwf20 million as runners-up. Kiyovu reached the final after eliminating Mukura VS, while Police FC defeated Rayo Sports to book their place in the title decider. The trophy is Kiyovu’s first major silverware since 2022, when they defeated Rayon Sports 2-1 to win the Made in Rwanda Cup.
