Manchester United were denied victory in dramatic fashion as Ainsley Maitland-Niles scored in added time to rescue a 2–2 draw for Everton in the Premier League on Sunday, September 6, 2026. Maitland-Niles, making his Everton debut after joining the club on deadline day, came off the bench and delivered a stunning finish in the sixth minute of stoppage time. The former Arsenal player controlled the ball outside the box before curling a first-time effort into the top corner, leaving United goalkeeper Senne Lammens helpless. United had twice taken the lead at Hill Dickinson Stadium but failed to protect their advantage. Bryan Mbeumo opened the scoring shortly after halftime with a low shot into the far corner. Everton responded through Tyrique George, who fired a powerful finish into the near post in the 83rd minute to level the contest. Manchester United appeared to have secured the win when substitute Benjamin Sesko headed them back in front in the 88th minute from a Luke Shaw delivery. However, Everton refused to surrender and Maitland-Niles produced the decisive moment late in the game. The result leaves Manchester United with just one win from their opening three league matches, following a defeat to Hull and a victory over Ipswich Town. Their defensive struggles continued, with United conceding two goals for the third consecutive match. For Everton, the point preserves their unbeaten start to the Premier League season, while Maitland-Niles enjoyed a memorable debut by becoming the unlikely hero.
