Manchester United have parted ways with manager Erik ten Hag following two and a half years at the helm. The decision was communicated to the Dutchman by the club’s board on Monday morning, just hours after a 2-1 defeat to West Ham at the London Stadium on Sunday afternoon. Ruud van Nistelrooy, who joined the club as Ten Hag’s assistant last summer, has been appointed as interim manager. The former striker and club legend will oversee the team as United search for a long-term managerial solution. The defeat to West Ham leaves Manchester United languishing in 14th place in the Premier League, with only three wins from their first nine games of the season. The club’s performance in the Europa League has also raised concerns, as they currently sit 21st out of 36 teams, far below expectations. Ten Hag, who was brought in to restore stability and bring silverware to Old Trafford, struggled to meet the high expectations that come with managing a club of United’s stature. Despite some positive moments during his tenure, the team’s inconsistent performances ultimately led to his dismissal. Ruud van Nistelrooy now faces the challenge of turning the season around as the team navigates both domestic and European competitions. The club’s board will begin the search for a permanent replacement, hoping to stabilize the squad and reignite their campaign. This managerial change reflects the club’s desire to reverse their poor start and put them back on the path to success. Fans and analysts alike will be closely watching how United respond in the coming weeks under Van Nistelrooy’s leadership.
