Two-time champions Morocco have become the first team to arrive for the 2024 TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN), setting the pace for what is expected to be an electrifying tournament co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. The Atlas Lions touched down at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi at 4:00 am on Monday, receiving a vibrant welcome featuring traditional East African music and dance. Their early arrival signals serious intent as they look to become the first nation to win the CHAN title three times. “We are excited to be here and ready for CHAN. I already love Nairobi; the weather is great, and we are looking forward to a successful tournament,” said defender Marouane Louadni of AS FAR. Placed in Group A alongside hosts Kenya, DR Congo, Angola, and Zambia, Morocco opens their campaign against Angola on Sunday at Nyayo National Stadium. They enter the competition on strong form, having defeated Chad 6-0 and played two competitive friendlies against Burkina Faso. Winners in 2018 and 2021, Morocco’s pedigree and tactical depth make them strong favorites. Their preparations included an intensive training camp designed to ensure physical and strategic readiness. With excitement building across East Africa ahead of the August 2 kickoff, Morocco’s presence highlights the growing stature of the CHAN tournament and the region’s readiness to host top-tier football.
