Rwanda’s RSSB Tigers BBC will face European and Asian opposition after being drawn into Group A of the 2026 FIBA Intercontinental Cup, following their historic triumph in the Basketball Africa League (BAL) 2026.
FIBA announced the group-stage draw on Saturday, 8 August 2026, confirming the teams that will compete in the tournament scheduled to take place in China from 22 to 27 September 2026.
RSSB Tigers will represent Africa after winning the BAL 2026 title in Kigali. Their victory was a historic achievement, making them the first Rwandan team to win the continent’s premier club basketball competition.
In Group A, RSSB Tigers will compete alongside Rytas Vilnius of Lithuania, representing Europe, and Shanghai Sharks of China, representing Asia.
The Rwandan champions will begin their campaign on 22 September against Rytas Vilnius in the opening game of the tournament. The match will provide RSSB Tigers with an immediate test against European opposition as they make their first appearance on the global intercontinental stage.
Group B features Beijing Royal Fighters of China, Boca Juniors of Argentina, representing South America, and NBA G League United, a team featuring selected players from the NBA G League and representing the United States.
The tournament will bring together club champions and representatives from different basketball regions, giving RSSB Tigers an opportunity to test themselves against teams from outside Africa.
The top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals. For RSSB Tigers, reaching the knockout stage would mark another significant achievement following their breakthrough BAL campaign.
The tournament also offers Rwanda another opportunity to showcase its growing influence in African basketball. After making history at the BAL in Kigali, RSSB Tigers will now carry Rwanda’s hopes onto an even bigger international stage.
Their opening match against Rytas Vilnius on 22 September will therefore be more than just the start of a tournament. It will be the beginning of another important chapter for Rwandan club basketball.
