Rwanda’s U-17 national team is preparing for their second match in the CECAFA U-17 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Kenya at Abebe Bikila Stadium on 21 November 2025. Kickoff is at 12:00 PM Kigali time (1:00 PM Ethiopia time). The team is determined to recover after a 0-2 loss to hosts Ethiopia in their opening match. Coach Sostén Habimana stated that the squad has completed intensive training sessions to correct the mistakes that affected their first outing. “We are ready to fix the errors we saw in the first match,” he said, noting that video analysis and staff discussions have helped improve teamwork, coordination, and overall performance. The coach confirmed that Gustave, who had been sidelined due to illness, is now available for selection, while Didier remains out with an injury. Kenya, known for their fast-paced, direct style of play (“jeu direct”), presents a challenging opponent. Rwanda has spent the past days preparing to counter this style and strengthen their performance. Team captain Ntwari Sharif expressed confidence in the squad, saying the players are focused and ready to secure a positive result against Kenya. Coach Habimana also called on Rwandan fans to fully support the U-17 team, emphasizing that the players are motivated and eager to impress.

“Captain Ntwari Sharif leads Rwanda U-17 with focus and determination.”
This afternoon, the Rwanda U-17 team participated in the CAF Safeguarding Workshop, a space dedicated to protecting young athletes and ensuring they grow in safe, supportive environments. The session highlighted that football develops best when children are nurtured and safeguarded. Coach Sostén Habimana added that the squad is now well-prepared, having addressed the errors from the first match, which included a lack of coordination and positioning issues. Rwanda U-17 will need discipline, teamwork, and quick adaptation to Kenya’s direct attacking style to bounce back and keep their qualification hopes alive in the CECAFA U-17 Africa Cup of Nations.

“Gustave returns to the squad, ready to contribute to Rwanda U-17’s fight for victory.”

“Didier is sidelined with injury but remains part of Rwanda U-17’s journey.”
