Rwanda is set to host the Ironman 70.3 competition for the third time, featuring the sport of triathlon. Twenty Rwandan athletes will participate in the competition, which will be held on August 4, 2024, in and on the banks of Lake Kivu in Rubavu District.

This time there will also be a category for athletes with disabilities, where Rwanda will be represented by Turamyimana Moussa who will swim, and Rukundo Augustin who will participate in running and cycling.

There are two teams in the women's category. Ishimwe will swim, Claudette and Mukamuhire Irene will cycle, and Uwizeyimana Jeanne Gentille will run as part of the first team, while Iradukunda Yvette, Uwiringiyimana Liliane, and Musabyimana Agnes make up the second team.

The competition also includes a mixed team of boys and girls, where Nyirabyenda Neema will swim, Gatete Vital cycle, and Bigoreiki Eliezer run.

The men's team includes Twibanire Damascène for swimming, Ngendahayo Geremie for cycling, and Mutabazi Emmanuel for running.

The individual competitors will include Uwineza Hanani, Tuyisenge Samuel, Iradukunda Eric, Hategekimana Timamu, Munyaneza Arthur, and Burora Geoffrey.

During a press conference held on Monday, July 8, 2024, the Ministry of Sports, Rubavu District, Rwanda Development Board [RDB], and Global Events Africa spoke.

Bonita Mutoni, the Director of Global Events Africa, informed that this year's competition will introduce a new feature with an exhibition.

She said, "We are well-prepared to host the tournament for the third time. This year, the exhibition will provide opportunities for business networking as it will be attended by many individuals interested in Rwandan ventures."

The participants of IRONMAN 70.3 Rwanda will face a 1.9km swim course at the waterfront of Lake Kivu, a 90km bike course, and a multi-lap 21.1km run course along the shoreline of Lake Kivu.

The term "70.3" signifies the total distance in miles covered during the triathlon.

During the previous edition of the tournament, Rwandans performed admirably, with Ishimwe Héritier emerging as the champion.

A little more informed. A little more connected.
